Fare, Friends and Lodgings

Hey people, Thought I would connect and begin to direct this cool journey with you. Pretty excited about this. pete just got back from Nicaragua with a team of youth and leaders and I've been sifting through his pics. So... Here's a few details- Trip dates are Saturday July 14,2012 (travel day) to Tuesday July 24,2012 (travel day). During this time, Sunday and Monday will be prep days. Tuesday to Friday will be our PD Sessions with approximately 40 Nicaraguan Teachers. We are hoping that the Friday afternoon would be a "spa" experience for these teachers to communicate to them that they are special and worth it. Then saturday through Monday we'll have a time to relax and de-compress and explore a bit of Nicaragua. One thing to consider is the "project costs" of this trip. Nicaraguans are incredibly poor and can not afford much. Working with the Skylark Centre, the cost to bring in and house 40 Nicaraguan Teachers for 4 days is going to be $1600 that we need to come up with as a team. It's going to run approximate $230 each (based on 7 of us). This is money we have to raise for those teachers to come to our PD week. Our individual team member trip land cost is $1300/person. This covers our lodgings, food and all transportation while in Nicaragua. It will also cover a few special events such as a trip to the beach or volcano or whatever. There may be a few incidentals (if you choose to zip-line or if you have alcoholic beverages while out for a meal etc.) Cheques for these land costs (and airfare if you choose - see below) need to be made out and sent to Threefold by June 14th, 2012. Return Airfare: 2 options- a) can be arranged by Threefold (the group hosting us in Nicaragua) for $1000. They will need a cheque sent to them by Wednesday March 28th to arrange your flight. They will need your name as it appears on your passport, your passport number and your date of birth and send information to the above address. b) can be arranged on your own. Please ensure you are travelling into Managua Nicaragua on July 14 and leaving on July 24 (to co-ordinate shuttles to the airport. The centre is 45-60 minutes away) I know you are looking for some direction about the workshops and the topics. That will appear in the next post. Hang in there. Cindi
