The Explorers
The others on the team were off for a series of exposures to several ministries and dreams that are in the works.
The day began with a discussion of the "Better Start in Life" programme proposal where the Centre would build a facility that would equip people to live healthier, develop work tools and skill and educate people for their potential success here in Nica.
From there, the team headed off to a property that might be assimilated into the Threefold family and used as a safe house for young women that have been forced into human trafficing. This is a difficult area and one that is becoming more prominant and the needs becoming more dire.
From the safe house we went to visit a private school that the Centre is considering embracing and taking over (management) Threefold already fully supports one school on the edge of Managua. This would be the second school if it were to come to fruition.
On to Masaya Market where local artists sell their wares and a market has been set up in the old town square. Items range from t-shirts and shoes to hand carved bowls and paintings on feathers, This is a wonderful taste of some of the culture and a great way to support some of the economy here in Nicaragua.
From there the group went to Masaya Volcano. Things have changed a bit at this volcanic park. Just this past April (after the youth team was here) the Volcano burped a bit, sending ash into the air along with a rain of stones and starting a few fires. This visit meant that we had to wear hard hats and were only allowed to stay at the edge of the volcano for 5 minutes and not allowed to hike around or up to the cross. The volcano was very smoky.
After that we went to lunch for some traditional cuisine. Michelle and Tammy had chicken, Gary and Jason had beef, Mauricio had lamb and Pete enjoyed some Armadillo once again! We started it all off with Plantano con Queso - plantain patties with a square of salty deep fried cheese on top - HEAVEN!
On the way back to the Skylark the team stopped to look down at a water filled Volcano...absolutely beautiful.
A great day although a lot to absorb. This is a beautiful yet impoverished country. The people here are friendly yet there is a need for sustainable growth and the ability for individuals to be able to provide for themselves. It is a privilege to be here.
